about the artist.
London Heir is an emerging portrait artist based in Toowoomba, Queensland. Her practice explores ethereality and juvenescence, working predominately with the female form. Through her realistic subject matter and painterly processes, London discusses self referential themes of empathy and the complexities of the human condition. Her current creative direction examines a more natural representation of femininity, verse the glamour aesthetic which featured heavily in her early work. She is drawn to watercolours, coloured pencils and charcoal mediums, but has recently expanded her skillset to printmaking and oil painting. She posts regularly on her blog about her etching, oil painting and sculpture projects, but her main gallery is reserved for her watercolour paintings, which are available for purchase.
London Heir has developed an unwavering dedication to her arts practice. Her formative years were spent in the Ukraine, where she was exposed to new modes of femininity; a significant influence on her work today. She has exhibiting extensively with in solo and group exhibitions nationally, as well as receiving recognition through multiple emerging artist awards.
London has contributed largely to the creative culture for young people in her regional home of Toowoomba. Through her independent workshop program and with in her role with multiple creative organisations, she has established avenues for young people to connect with her own practice and boarder art mediums. Over a three year period as part of StART (Student Art) , London encouraged young artists to exhibit their work in a professional setting and connect with other like minded creatives. Within this collective London cemented her passion for working with young people and finds herself compelled to inspire the next generation of artists.
